I hear this all the time. "Compelling arguments are made on both sides, but very little real scientific method is utilized while producing these arguments." old doc. What would be appropriate? Double blind studies? Measurement of complete climate varying factors individually? Increasing, then decreasing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere? Given the size and complexity of the atmosphere, the geography, and the oceans, with the ocean currents, what scientific method(s) would be appropriate? Also, how many days, months, years, decades, would be appropriate for such tests? "we could plant trees and wait 10 years". Exxon loves you yes they do, and they love their profits too, folks like you are oh so sweet, proping up their balance sheet. "I think we need at least another 60-90 years worth of satellite temperature data." Oh my, exxon likes you even better. "hey, it was hot a thousand years ago." of course, (A) there weren't millions of us to feed, and, when populations died off, (Greenland) it wasn't a big deal.

What other scientific theory is there that explains the origin of species?

Opponents of evolution claim that scientists are in some sort of debate as to whether or not evolution is fact. While, from my experience, this notion of a divided scientific community is nonsense, I would like to let you elaborate. What other scientific theory is being developed to explain Species and/or the fossil record? *ahem* I had my doubts, but come on. There isn't one? Not even a thesis? A hypothesis? A hunch? Adam F: I know! I was hoping to see some new theories! I'm just as open to rejecting evolution as anyone else, I just need to see a better theory first. Mel-am Meru: Just because a theory has holes, doesn't mean it's the correct scientific paradigm. One of the first things you learn about science is that no theory is EVER perfect. There will always be always be holes, and chances are that at some point your theory will be proven wrong and replaced by a better, though possibly similar theory. Do you have any idea how many theories of "What is an Atom" we have gone through? It's mind-boggling As for theories you take for granted, they have more holes than any of them. You believe in gravity? Heres a laugh for you: SCIENTISTS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT CAUSES TWO OBJECTS TO ATTRACT ONE ANOTHER. Anyways, my point is that every theory has holes (It's inevitable until we know EVERYTHING), but it doesn't mean that it shouldn't be the dominant paradigm.

How can established scientific fact be separated from shortly disputed scientific misconceptions?

All too often, seemingly well rooted "facts" and scientific breakthroughs, including those in the medical field, are either challenged or rendered entirely obsolete in a few years. Are specific sources of information at fault? Or is this simply a case of human intellectual conflict?
