Would America dominate soccer just like we dominate all sports if we cared?
If we didn't loathe and hate soccer I believe we'd dominate it like we do all other sports, football, baseball, basketball, even hockey. What do you think, imagine Kobe playing soccer and dominating some little German shrimp or powering through some effete Brazilian.

Best answer: Regardless of what soccer fans think, the USA as a whole will never embrace soccer at anywhere near the level of the other four major sports. We've been told for more than 30 years (since Pele came to North America) that soccer was going to take the USA by storm... still waiting...
Most NBA players don't have the stamina to play soccer at a high level, so neither Kobe nor anyone else in the NBA would be doing much of anything in soccer....well, maybe Steve Nash, since he knows something about the game. And Olajuwon grew up playing soccer...
One huge reason that Americans will never be impressed with soccer as a major sport is because of the lack of scoring, which also translates to a lack of statistics. Americans love statistics. Soccer just doesn't have enough of 'em.
Soccer players as a rule are much better at basketball than basketball players are at soccer. I've known a large number of soccer players who just walk onto a basketball court and play like they belong there. Can't say the same for anyone I know who plays basketball as their first sport.

Answer 3 If you look at the sports from a sociological stand point; it makes some form of sense. In the lower economic neighborhoods all around the world; the sport that is most popular, is it's nation's dominate sport. If you were to go to North Philadelphia or the South Bronx, the sport of choice played on the playgrounds is basketball. If you were to go to run down areas of Sao Paulo, it would be soccer (football.) and just if you went to the Dominican Republic; they'd be playing baseball.
I believe, not enough kids stick with soccer once they reach their teens. It's a difficult sport to play day in and day out, with the conditioning being one of the hardest to withstand of any sport.
Kobe actually grew up in Italy, where his favorite sport was actually soccer, and from time to time you can see him juggling the basketball. Steve Nash' brother and father both played professional soccer, and Nash spends his off-season summers in New York City playing soccer, and even at times training with the Red Bulls of the MLS. 2009-05-29 08:10:27
Answer 4 I'm american and i think maybe if we lived for soccer like the rest of the world we could. I dont no if we would dominate but we would be a soccer power house like brazil spain italy germany england argentina. 2009-05-29 08:11:45
Answer 5 haha. No!
And the U.S. only dominates in hoops. Basically no other country has football(american), Canada and that's it. In Baseball, Japan and S.Korea dominate. Look at the American goofs in the World Classic.
And Hockey? Please! You have to be quite ignorant if you think the U.S. dominates. The NHL might be the best league, but the best players are Canadian or European. 2009-05-29 08:47:34
Answer 6 Dude, a lot of us to love soccer and America has made progress to move into the top level of the sport with the women. I know that many other countries do not take the women as a real sport, but it does show what can be done with the dedication.
The problem with the men's side is 2 things. First, we have great coaches here but they are hidden in pockets within clubs that cost a lot of money to play for them. As much as we like to say that if the sport were to be more "mainstream" and could be played in parks and streets like basketball, the level would increase so much; the truth is that the tactics of soccer are something that requires a lot of knowledge and experience to master. Second, as long was our schools have to balance the "opportunity" for boys and girls, there will not be any real division 1 college mens' soccer here because the cost of American football. The colleges cannot offer it as a sport in most cases.
In all honesty, the only sport that we really "dominate" is American Football because no one else really has it. Baseball and basketball have become fairly balanced around the world and sorry but hockey includes players from all over the world in the NHL. 2009-05-29 08:48:17

Answer 8 Please no. It's sooooooooo boring to watch. There are very few scoring chances and the announcers put me to sleep. The sports we dominate are enough. No room for soccer.
Heck, I'd rather watch the national spelling bee than watch soccer. 2009-05-29 09:18:27
