What printers are compatible with a Dell Dimension E510 desktop computer?

My desktop is quite old, and our printer is broken, and we don't want to accidentally buy one that isn't compatible. The stores we have around here are OfficeMax, Kmart and Walmart. Any suggestions on printers that would work with this computer would be great. Thank you!

Before you go to any store to shop for a printer, you need to know what version of Microsoft Windows you are using. If you are not sure, go to "start menu", "control panel", then "system". It should tell you if you are using Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or some other windows. Now, you are ready to shop. Go to any store and find the cheapest printer that you may like. Then ask any employee there if this printer is compatible w/ your Windows. That's it. All the above store should offer full refund if the employee misinformed you. Good luck.

For a printer to be compatible, it has to have two things. First, a connector that matches out of the connectors on your PC. 99% of printers on the market are USB, and the E510 does have a USB port. You may need to purchase a USB cable if you do not have one already (from your old printer), as not all printers come with a cable. Second, the printer has to have the driver for the version of Windows you are running. I have not way of predicted what version you have, but most printers today come with drivers for Windows 7, Vista and XP. If not, they are normally available from the Internet as a free download from the manufacturer's site. But ANY printer will work with ANY PC, as long as you can connect it and have the drivers. Nothing about an E510 will it make it incompatible with any printers.

Your printer doesnt have to match the computer brand, it has to match the operating system used. If your computer is Windows 7, you need a windows 7 compatible printer. Since your desktop is old, it may have an old version of windows and a lot of the newer printers may not run on the version you have.
