What other scientific theory is there that explains the origin of species?

Opponents of evolution claim that scientists are in some sort of debate as to whether or not evolution is fact. While, from my experience, this notion of a divided scientific community is nonsense, I would like to let you elaborate. What other scientific theory is being developed to explain Species and/or the fossil record? *ahem* I had my doubts, but come on. There isn't one? Not even a thesis? A hypothesis? A hunch? Adam F: I know! I was hoping to see some new theories! I'm just as open to rejecting evolution as anyone else, I just need to see a better theory first. Mel-am Meru: Just because a theory has holes, doesn't mean it's the correct scientific paradigm. One of the first things you learn about science is that no theory is EVER perfect. There will always be always be holes, and chances are that at some point your theory will be proven wrong and replaced by a better, though possibly similar theory. Do you have any idea how many theories of "What is an Atom" we have gone through? It's mind-boggling As for theories you take for granted, they have more holes than any of them. You believe in gravity? Heres a laugh for you: SCIENTISTS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT CAUSES TWO OBJECTS TO ATTRACT ONE ANOTHER. Anyways, my point is that every theory has holes (It's inevitable until we know EVERYTHING), but it doesn't mean that it shouldn't be the dominant paradigm.

Errr.... Ceiling cat had a fight with basement cat and he threw basement cat out of catnip heaven and now basement cat wants your soul and ceiling cat sent his only kitten to earth to save us. So after the bust up with Basement cat Ceiling cat created the earth in 6 days and on the last 7th day he played with a ball of wool.

There is no debate in the scientific community. The common statement I hear is that evolution is under attack in the scientific world, which is a complete and utter lie. Anything you ever read about "evolution being disproven" or "Evolution being faulty" is an outright bold-faced lie. I could have sworn that the god of the creationists said something about not lying... now where was that again??? Creationists will tell you that "intelligent design" explains it, but in reality it explains nothing. It says "everything was made by god," and then stops there. What the hell are the practical applications of that "theory?" EDIT No, I'm afraid that you won't get any logical responses, not even any good solid efforts, where this one is concerned. I once asked for practical applications of the "theory" of creation, y'know, to try and let them play with the big kids... I got nothing but propaganda, lies, and SCRIPTURE TYPED IN REALLY BIG LETTERS. Give it a minute... you'll get the same thing.

There are no major competing scientific theories, but there are differences in opinion about evolution itself. One 'alternative' view is 'punctuated equilibrium'. The only alternative to evolution is creationism, which is non-scientific, actually anti-scientific because it is not based on observation and experiment but on gratuitous doctrine. Even dressed up as 'intelligent design' it is anti-scientific. Saying that evolution is bunk because scientists can't agree is like denying global warming because scientists can't agree on how fast it's going, how soon it will be irreversible, etc. Totally specious.

I think the scientists that know evolution is false basically stand by the theory, "We don't have the answers..." I know there are some things that prove slight changes within species but there are too many holes in the theory of everything evolved from a single cell into what we have today. There just isn't the proof they say there is. The only problem with admitting evolution theory is flawed is realizing we're back to square one and really don't have the answers. But at least admitting we don't know yet is more honest and scientific than stating proof through porous scientific theories... it's hard to see how it's anything but divine intervention. whatever else that might be - it might even be true I suppose, although I don't think that's likely... it's not a scientific hypothesis. ID proponents don't suggest how it might be tested, in fact they seem thoroughly uninterested in testing it.

Creationism is the fruit of a fundamentalist approach to scripture, ignoring scholarship and critical learning, and confusing different understandings of truth. - Lord Carey former Archbishop of Canterbury. The Pope and the catholic church recognize evolution!! So it is just the closed minds that are in terror of it!! But we should be sorry for them since they fail to understand that minds are like parachutes. They only function when they are open!!!
