Using a receiver, can I connect my home audio system to computer?

I'm interested in buying a home audio system. However, it cannot be directly connected to a computer. Can using a receiver make this possible?

I think j needs to spend another 40 years to get his answer right. Get a SS receiver and you'll be hooking your PC to it, actually. If your PC has an optical output and making sure you buy a receiver with an optical input. This is just to get the audio from your PC. If you want the video from PC also, have a video card that has an HDMI output. If this connectivity doesn't work for you, see a Home Theater salesman and tell him what hardware your PC has in terms of what kind of outputs your sound card or on-board sound has. Also, tell him what kind of outputs are on the video card. As said earlier, see a salesman to get you going.

Yes, just take the line output from the receiver & plug it into the line input on the computer (or mic input if there's no line input) & you should be fine. Radio Shack (or the moral equivalent thereof) can provide the needed cables/adaptors.

An AV receiver with HDMI switching will handle the audio and video if the computer has HDMI output. Optical inputs can used for the audio, if desired. I have a MacMini and a PC (plus four other HDMI video sources, a component video source, and optical, RCA and Coax audio sources) connected to a Sony AV receiver and the nice part is that the TV input is always the receiver.

Computer audio line out (green jack)----------> home audio line in (red/white) CD, Tape, or Aux inputs will worlk. All you need is a 3.5 mm to RCA adapter cable. <$10, available at any electronics store, or department store with an electronics department (Walmart, Targét, etc.)

You can connect ANY type of sound system to play audio from your computer. All you need is a Y cable. Its shaped like a "Y" one end is a headphone jack (3.5mm jack) other end is RCA (Red and white connects). Headphone jack goes into your PC and ALLLLLL Audio systems will have RCA (red and white) inputs. You don't need a receiver at all to enjoy above average audio from your PC. The only thing I can think this might no work with is a low end boombox. Buy a "Y" cable. AKA 3.5mm to RCA cable. BTW LOL At J's Answer don't read that it will just confuse you!
