Should I buy a refurbished TV?
Hi,
I'm looking at TVs to buy for my dorm, and I'm surprised at how expensive even the smallest sets are! My budget was up to $250, but I found what I think is a great deal:
23" Vizio Razor LED HDTV
Refurbished
$193.90
Free two-day shipping with Amazon Prime Student.
What do you recommend? Should I go for this deal or buy a brand new TV?
I just e-mailed the seller to see if the Manufacturer's Warranty is still valid.

Best answer:Refurbished is always the way to go. They're harder to find because not all of them have problems, and it's still considered new. I've never heard of a refurbished piece of technology having another problem.

If something was wrong with it, then who's to say something else isn't wrong with it. spend the extra money for a new one. A floor model would be a discounted tv you could buy but is difficult to find.

You might want to contact Vizio to see if the warranty is transferable. Just being valid means that the original owner can still use it, but it has to transfer to another owner (you) to have any validity if you're buying it from a private party. If you're buying this from an on-line retailer, a refurbished unit should have a full manufacturer's warranty. I have had very good luck with what's called B stock equipment, where it was returned to the manufacturer for some reason. This could include units with cosmetic damage (this is usually not visible, like on the back or bottom panel), warranty returns that were refurbished, retailer demo equipment that was returned, etc. And, you can usually save up to 50% off of the regular retail price.
