How many computer parts do I need to make a computer?
Next year I plan to get a summer job. I want to know (and give a list) how many computer parts do I need to make a computer (desktop preferably)

Best answer: You need (at a minimum):
* A CPU (processor) - should come with a fan
* A mainboard
* RAM (memory)
* Storage (Hard drive or SSD)
* Case
* Power supply (if not included with the case)
* Operating system (Eg. Ubuntu, Windows 7)
If the mainboard does not have on-board video, you'll also need a video card.
If you were going with Windows, system builders (like yourself) can get an OEM copy for greatly reduced price when compared to a retail copy.
Make sure that the CPU/RAM/Video are all appropriate for your selected mainboard (ie. don't try and install an Intel i7 processor on a board for an AMD)
Extras to consider:
* Optical drives (eg. DVD burner)
* Input devices: keyboard, mouse
* Speakers
* Extra cooling
