AMAZON KINDLE

Is it like the iPad? My mom might want one for christmas and and iPad is to much.. she wants it for the apps and internet surfing.. does the kindle have that? or is it just for reading books and such?? Can someone please just tell me everything you can do on the Kindle.. no links please.(:

I have both. You are not going to want the kindle. It is for books - and it does it really well. I get newspapers, magazines and books on my kindle. It does show pictures but very grainy and many newspapers do not include their pictures in kindle content. You cannot surf the internet. (it does have what they call a "browser" - but you will be shocked at how bad and slow it is - it is simply meant to go to their online bookstore - I never use it and purchase my books through my regular computer connection) In contrast, the ipad shows pictures as they are meant to be. So only get it for her if she loves to read. because thats all she can do on it.

Kindle are not suitable for apps and internet surfing kindle is not only gray-scale but a 16 gray-scale levels. their web browsing ability is very limited. they are just book readers. you could give your mom an ipad alternative such archos 5, archos 28 45 or 32 You can read ebooks in kindle you can send and receive emails in a very awkward black and white manner you can also use its built in English dictionary,

I just bought this 5 hours ago so I don't know everything but you can go on the internet with wifi or the wifi 3G for free but its a grey screen with black type so no color and no videos can be played. You don't need to have it plugged in to the computer but its an option. If the publisher allows it the kindle can read to you though in a computer like voice. Some books are free most are about $9.99. Can it play games well I have yet to find out but I think there may be something like crosswords puzzles that may be fun. I read in high school a lot but since I've been out I stopped this will get me back into it. Electronics and books is great! $139 is a great value that it can hold around 3,500 books built-in dictionary. You can subscribe to the big time newspapers and some magazines. So far I only have 1 free book the world of the wars by HG Wells. This will keep me busy and off video games for a bit back into reading. Recommended This is a gift to myself for christmas but Im using it now. Oh did I say a 3 hour charge can last 30 days cant beat that!
